Shetland county select teams have been playing since 1919, mostly against neighbouring Orkney in competition for the Milne Cup. They also compete as part of the bi-annual Island Games.
Shetland Football club were formed in 2013 with the purpose of competing during the winter against club teams from across the Highland and Islands. They were accepted as a 'cups only' competitor by the North Caledonian FA ahead of the 2013-14 season.
They currently play their 'home' matches at Thurso's Sir George's Park, or at other suitably arranged venues on the Mainland.
