Cup Final Preview

Macleod and MacCallum North Caledonian League

Invergordon v Orkney
Recreation Grounds, Invergordon
12:45pm

This weekend sees the top two from last season’s MacLeod & MacCallum North Caledonian League go head to head, as Invergordon welcome Orkney to Recreation Grounds. This is sure to be a close encounter as matches between the two sides are always tight affairs, with three of the last four League meetings being won by a solitary goal and penalties required to separate them last time they locked horns in last season’s Jock MacKay Cup Semi Final. Gary Campbell’s men will be looking to put last weekend’s home defeat to Golspie Sutherland quickly behind them and stretch their lead at the top of the league with a win, while the Orcadians will be looking to secure an impressive fourth straight away win of the season to leap frog their host into top spot.

Thurso v Inverness Athletic
Sir George’s Park, Thurso
2.30pm

The Dammies is the venue for Thurso v Inverness Athletic on Saturday, as both sides look to improve on recent MacLeod & MacCallum North Caledonian League results. Surprisingly the hosts are still on the hunt for their first win of the new League season after an opening day draw with Orkney before back to back defeats at Golspie Sutherland and Alness United. This was followed by a draw away at St Duthus last weekend with The Saints netting late on to snatch a point from the Vikings. Inverness Athletic will themselves be looking to bounce back from their close home defeat last time out at the hands of Orkney and try and rediscover the form that saw them win three games on the bounce earlier in the season. A look back at previous seasons will give The Vikings plenty hope, with the hosts scoring with ease and taking maximum points from Athletics last two visits to Caithness.
